Why We Relay

Hello Friends,
I know it has been some time since I last posted a blog, for that I'm truly sorry. I will try to improve it that area. I have some material that was written just after Danene passed, but has just been too hard to read it but I need to get it out there. But this time I am writing because this weekend our family if doing something very close to our hearts just as it was to Danene's. Below you will find what we have posted on our Relay for Life Lodi CA page. Please take the time to read it and if you’re compelled join us as we share our life's and hope with others that have been affected by cancer. If you would like to donate copy the link, paste it in your address bar, scroll down the page and pick the family member you would like to donate too. Thank you all and you should hear from me soon with an update on our family.

Why we Relay,

Let me tell you the story about "A Family That Believes" it all started on a day in September 2008 when we got a call from the Doctor confirming that my wife had cancer. We both have been impacted by cancer in our lives with other family members and friends who had cancer and beat it or scrummed to it. But this was much different, my wife of 21 years and mom of 3 and a 45-year old healthy woman was not sub post to get kidney cancer. But it happens just the same and this was the road that we must travel. After that first night of crying ourselves to sleep we chose to fight and believe that we could beat it even after being told that she only would have about a 5% chance of beating it completely, and from that point I called her my 5%er. God did heal her, by rewarding her with everlasting life in Heaven on January 31, 2010.

We both had been involved with Relay for Life for a number of years, honoring and in memory of family and friends and in 2008 when Danene was walking we didn't know it at the time but this indiscriminate disease was raging in her body. And the year after that she walked as a survivor while taking chemo and her feet on fire from the medication but yet she would walk, but not for her. For the 3 years before she walked from 4-6am praying for all the people she knew that have been affected and even those she didn't know, because that was the type of person she was. Last year I picked up her baton and walked during that time slot and praying for all of the people that have been impacted because it was my turn.

We both always hope and prayed for her to be healed here on earth, but that was not God's will, He chose to heal her in Heaven, and that is where our "Belief" part kicks in. My family started walked together in 2004 for the first time and with each passing year it has taken on more meaning not with just hope of finding a cure. But by example my family and I can be by providing the everlasting Hope that only can given when a person has a Relationship with Christ as we have. So please join me and my team "A Family That Believes" in raising some funds for the American Cancer Society and along the way maybe you too can share the Joy and Peace that only can be found in a Relationship with the one and only true Living God and His Son Jesus Christ. Because just because a chapter has been closed with the passing of a loving wife, mom, daughter, friend, cousin and sister, doesn't mean the story is finished because we all can make a difference in others because of this story that God is writing through us. So join me as we raise some funds to help provide Hope through the American Cancer Society and maybe you can in the process share your story of Hope with someone that needs to hear it. Join "A Family That Believes" just as my family and friends have, and walk with us.

Danene's partner in life, Matt, along our kids, Zac, Regan, and Meghan.
